The National Association of Primary Care (NAPC) is the leading national
membership organisation for primary care professionals in the UK.
The NAPC is committed to helping GPs and their practice staff deliver more effective
and efficient patient-centred care and continues to influence national policies,
which meet the needs of both primary care professionals and their patients.
The GPs, practice nurses and healthcare professionals who form a large part of
the NAPC's membership are among the most trusted and powerful influences on a woman
concerning any health issue she may face. There is not a question they have not
been asked, nor an issue that they have not addressed. Consequently, no one knows
better the challenges that women face, as well as the products and services that
they need to purchase to manage their health and well-being. However, there are
many pressures and demands on the primary care professional's time and nearly 40%
of UK GPs' time is taken up by patients with minor ailments, which could be effectively
treated by a pharmacy. As a result, the Government and the National Health Service
(NHS) are committed to promoting self-care and improving consumer access to over
the counter (OTC) medicines.
GPs recognise that in order to play their part in the NHS plan, they must empower
their patients to manage their own health and wellbeing. As a result consumer demand
for healthcare and nutritional products in the UK is growing rapidly.
WOMEN'S HEALTH TODAY from the National Association
of Primary Care (NAPC) is a major platform of communication and forms an important
part of the Association's ongoing work in informing and exchanging ideas to raise
the standard of healthcare among women in the UK.
